Corded roll up shades, bamboo and other textures

Children have died many ways from roll up shades. The cords going around the shade to help roll it up can be easily taken removed from the side and there is one loop. This can be done on both sides so there are 2 loops that consumers are unaware of. Next is the pull cords, they can also be pulled on, making the cords longer, and children have wrapped the single tassel around thier neck and strangled. There are many of these shades that do NOT have inner cord stoppers on them that are being sold on the market today. The cords that roll up the shade can do in reverse. If you pull on that cord it gets longer and longer. making one huge loop. Many children have died this way.

OTHER HAZARDOUS WINDOW TREATMENTS

Roman Shades

These are pictures of Roman shade. The first picture on the (Right) you see is the new Roman shade. When looking at them from the front roman shades seem harmless except for the dangling pull cords in the front. There is more than one way a child could strangle in window coverings like these. Looking at the back of the roman shade (below) is the hidden hazard. ALL the cords in these window treatments makes them a hazard to children. These hazards are hidden and not obvious to the consumers eye. The red arrows are the hazardous areas. There is more than one way a child could strangle in window coverings like these. These are being sold at most home improvement stores, discount stores, and large department stores. We recommend NOT using ANY of these products in the home because of the hazards they pose to children.

Cellular shades

Cellular shades below all look the most harmless. There is usually one tassel along with a bead above the tassel. The problem is that above the bead is another loop (picture on right). Children have strangled in the loop above the cord joiners. Some of the warning labels are very misleading. Even the boxes say that they are safe. We purchased one box with 2 warning labels enclosed in the package. One read "this product reduces the stranulation hazard by removing the loop in the pull cord". The other warning lable read "children can strangle in the loop above the bead or cord joiner". This is very misleading to the consumer! One label says there is no loop and the other label says there is! All corded window treatments MUST have 2 tassles, or a cord joiner in order to lift both sides of the bottom rail of the shade otherwise the shade would be lopsided when trying to open it.
Most cellular shades have cord joiners that are just as dangerous as the "old" syle window blinds recalled in 1994 because it creates a loop in the pull cord.
